Qsound Studios is a REAL recording studio, a true world class, multi – studio facility located here on the Gold Coast, in Sunny Qld Australia. A studio of many firsts, we are the ONLY multi studio facility with the ONLY large format SSL console up this way and feature the first tangerine automation system in the country.
Our world class studios are sound proofed and acoustically treated to the highest levels allowing both studios to operate fully independently at the same time with no interruptions or you can hire the entire facility and have access to over 5 isolated recording spaces! In fact, our facility features 3 live rooms, 2 Iso booths, 2 control rooms, large kitchen and dining area, coffee and tea area, lounge, machine room, production warehouse, 2 bathrooms and Foyer.
With features reminiscent of iconic recording studios like A&M, Capitol, Sunset Sound & Electric lady, our facility has a familiar vibe that’s instantly warm, inviting and inspiring. We take pride in the approach of combining the best in vintage & analogue equipment with the latest in digital conversion and automation, knowing it takes more than a lone keyboard and mouse to make a truly great record. The SSL.
Our studio is home to not one large format analogue recording console, But two.
The most famous of these is our SSL 6048 E /G+ Console. Made in 1985 and fully restored (Including recapping and Re-chipping) in 2020/21. Our console originally resided as the centre piece in studio A & Mix Room in the famous Armstrong’s AAV (Later Renamed Metropolis Audio). During it’s time with Metropolis and according to the article published by “The Age”. Metropolis (and our console) was responsible for 8 out of every 10 hit records in this country) everything from mixing Whispering Jack Album for John Farnham (Which is still the no1 selling Australian album in Australia) to Powderfinger, INXS, Cold Chisel, Diesel, Thirsty Merc, Savage Garden. If you can think of it, chances are Metropolis had something to do with it. In 2018 we purchased and began the task of restoring this incredible console and today it’s one of the finest examples of an SSL anywhere in the world. Featuring a world first modern digital automation system and an Atomic Power supply and that SSL sound!
The Spaces
We needed an equally impressive new space for the SSL to call home. Over 3 years of Design, planning & Construction and our Studio A was born. Studio A has a large 133 sq m footprint and takes up the entire first floor of the facility. The Acoustic design isn't just functional, it's breathtaking and our control room is one of the most accurate listening spaces anywhere in the world. The live room has just the right amount of "live" while remaining controlled and tight and again features a stunning exterior decor that's as functional as it is ascetically pleasing. The levels of isolation achieved are top Tier with no expense spared on construction of the facility (To find out more about this, head on over to our history page). If there was ever overkill in soundproofing and acoustic design it was here at Qsound. Below Studio A taking up a large portion of the ground floor is Studio B (which was the original Studio's) officially opened in 2009 as Luna Audio, it soon became a Qld Favourite with a long history of local, national and international artists through its doors. Now owner Scott, remembers fondly the times he worked out of this studio also, prior to taking ownership in 2016.
The Team.
Qsound Studios has a phenomenal team of talented Audio Engineers lead by Owner and Head Engineer Scott Cameron. Aside from a career in Audio production spanning of over 20 years and working on Gold, Double Gold and Platinum records, Scott has also had a long career as a performer. As a guitarist and Singer, Scott was the lead performer in the International Smash hit musical “The Buddy Holly story” from 2004- 2010 and travelled the World portraying Holly in London’s West end, America, Spain, Australia and NZ. Scott leads a team of 5 + talented engineers that can bring the goods to your production.
